Ford City was one of the surrounding neighbourhoods amalgamated into Windsor over the years. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1912, becoming a town in 1915. On June 1, 1929, the former Town of Ford was incorporated into the City of East Windsor. It only lasted a few years, as it was amalgamated into Windsor in 1935, at the same time as Sandwich and Walkerville. Centralized by Windsor Metropolitan Hospital on Tecumseh Road East, it is bordered by Walker Road to the east, Tecumseh Road East to the North, Howard Avenue to the West and the CPR line to the South. Many of its streets are named after World War I battles such as Ypres, Somme, and Amiens.

He about how everything they do is for the Saviors, and tries to convince them to join them and fight the Saviors. Gabriel, who was brought out for Rick to see, holds Tamiel hostage and tells them that if they join the group in fighting them, they will be rewarded with whatever they desire. There, he is forced to fight Winslow, a severely decayed walker with spikes pierced into its body, to prove that he is worthy. After a struggle, Rick decapitates Winslow and Jadis tells him that if Rick and his people finds enough guns, Jadis and the Scavengers will fight with them. At the Hilltop, Rick and the group argue with Gregory over fighting the Saviors. He rudely declines to get involved, and the Alexandrians leave the house in frustration.

Most of the western border with Missouri and Iowa is the Mississippi River; Kaskaskia is an exclave of Illinois, lying west of the Mississippi and reachable only from Missouri. The state's northern border with Wisconsin is fixed at 42° 30′ north latitude. The northeastern border of Illinois lies in Lake Michigan, within which Illinois shares a water boundary with the state of Michigan, as well as Wisconsin and Indiana. During the early part of the Paleozoic Era, the area that would one day become Illinois was submerged beneath a shallow sea and located near the Equator. Diverse marine life lived at this time, including trilobites, brachiopods, and crinoids.
Most of the coal produced in Illinois is exported to other states, while much of the coal burned for power in Illinois is mined in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. After the war with the Saviors ended, Ezekiel, Carol, Jerry, Dianne, Henry, and the remaining Kingdom soldiers return to the Kingdom. In an alliance with Alexandria, Hilltop, Oceanside, and the Sanctuary, the Kingdom assists in the efforts to rebuild after the war. A regiment of Kingdom laborers join the workforce dedicated to building a bridge between the Kingdom and Hilltop. After the bridge project failed and Rick Grimes was believed to have been lost, the Kingdommers returned home where over time, the communities in the alliance grew apart and isolated. Rachel Lawler is a survey analyst at the Public Policy Institute of California, where she works with the statewide survey team.
Six years later, the Kingdom hosted the Fair of New Beginning in an attempt to reunite the communities. Though successful, the fair was infiltrated by a territorial cult known as the Whisperers. Ten fairgoers, including Ezekiel's son, Henry, were captured and decapitated. Their heads were placed on pikes to mark the border between the Coalition's land and the Whisperer's territory. Several months after the fair massacre, the Kingdom was abandoned due to deteriorating conditions.
Residents of Alexandria then joined the efforts in overthrowing Governor Pamela Milton. Alexandria regained independence and one year later remained allied with the Commonwealth under the reform of Governor Ezekiel Sutton, continuing to be led by Aaron and Gabriel Stokes. Alexandria was one of four joint communities known as the Coalition; formed along with the Hilltop Colony, the Kingdom and Oceanside in response to all the communities being terrorized by the Saviors, a sadistic band of extortionists. After the defeat of the Saviors, the residents returned and repaired Alexandria. Following Rick Grimes' disappearance, the safe-zone was led by Rick's wife, Michonne Grimes, and continued to be a thriving community.
Under Gregory's rule the community managed to preserve itself without major casualties and built a wall around itself. When the Saviors arrived and executed members of the community Gregory chose to agree to the Saviors supply tax to preserve the community. This agreement lasted until an attempted assassination of Gregory took place. Gregory then made a treaty with the newly discovered community of Alexandria. Recently Gregory returned to his old policies and reached another agreement with the Saviors with Simon acting as the new outpost commander. Most conflicts seem to be resolved almost entirely by conversation and it is unknown if any other punishments have been made.

Many international religious leaders have visited Chicago, including Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul II in 1979. As in the rest of the state of Illinois, Chicago forms part of the Central Time Zone.
Using several teams of Rick's group and Alexandria residents, the community planned to divert the walkers onto a road and lead them away from the safe-zone. During a dry run of the plan, a truck gave way, forcing them to put Rick's plan into action ahead of schedule. Most of the plan goes smoothly until the residents couldn't defend themselves, forcing Rick and his group to kill the walkers.
